RATIONALE

This guide will help you adapt the generic Community of Practice evaluation (CoPeval) questionnaire to your community and context. A community of practice (CoP) is a group of people (clinicians, managers, patients, and researchers for instance) who share a concern or a passion for something they do, and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly [1].

Based on a literature review, the CoPeval questionaire was developped in 2019 to help CoPs evaluate and improve their processes and outcomes. The questionnaire was created, revised and validated with two CoPs in Quebec, namely the CoP in Youth Mental Health and Wellness in Nunavik (Atautsikut) and the Réseau québécois des pharmaciens en groupe de médecine de famille (equivalent to Family Health Team).

The CoPeval questionnaire needs to be adapted to your community to ensure that all dimensions are represented and all questions are relevant to your context [2, 3]. The original questionnaire is composed of 8 dimensions. Each dimension contains 3 to 9 statements. For each statement, there are 5 response options ranging from “Totally agree” to “Totally disagree”. While adapting the CoPeval may involve removing irrelevant statements, it is recommended to keep at least 3 statements per dimension

PURPOSE

This guide provides two practical methods for adapting the CoPeval questionnaire to your CoP. Specifically, it is aimed to enable CoP leaders to adapt the CoPeval questionnaire with CoP members, and choose the most appropriate method depending on available resources. CoP leaders can be members of the CoP advisory or steering committee, and CoP administrators or coordinators.
